Microsoft's new free anti-virus "Microsoft Security Essentials" (MSE) aka Morro is available to download. Its available for Windows XP, Vista and 7. Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions are available. The build number is 1.0.1407.00 which is lower than the leaked version on torrents.


According to Microsoft Security Essentials official homepage, the beta is available only to customers in the United States, Israel (English only), People’s Republic of China (Simplified Chinese only) and Brazil (Brazilian Portuguese only) ... but, I already manage to download it, of course I'm not from those listed countries, I'm from Malaysia exactly and I also stated my origin in their (Microsoft) Beta download servey form before the download approved. So, some mistake here and you could try to download it if you are not even in those mentioned places.

Once the application to Microsoft Security Essentials Beta is successful (active status), user can download the setup installer for Microsoft Security Essentials Beta from within Connect website itself. Most importantly, the Windows operating system must be genuine and legit, and can pass the Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) validation. Validation is done during installation wizard.


It's available for only first 75,000 users but Microsoft can increase the limit if required. So grab your copy asap. You'll need a Windows Live ID and will have to fill a small survey before downloading it. Its available on Microsoft Connect.

Microsoft Security Essentials 1.0 (Morro Anti-Virus) Leaked Download

During this time, I only read about a new project from Microsoft to replace "Windows Live One Care" with their very first Antivirus + Antispyware codenamed "Morro".

However, recently there is a leaked screenshot from Microsoft (by their internal staff I guess) that this project is indeed not simply just a rumours.

Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Manually

Sometimes Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware users experiencing problem when trying to update malware signatures or more known as "mbam-rules", this is caused by several things, such as malwarebytes'.org server experiencing a high traffic flow or users had a problem with their internet connection and also a few other things.

To overcome this, you need to update manually. If you browse to malwarebytes.org web pages, you can see that they did not give any link to download a standalone mbam-rules update file, but technically, they provide it.

So, you can download mbam-rules.exe from here.

Double click mbam-rules.exe to install the updates, for Windows Vista and Windows 7 users, please right click the file and choose "run as administrator".

How To Backup And Restore Your Firefox Passwords

Firefox has a built in password manager that helps you store usernames and passwords for the sites you need to login and use. Once the username/passwords are saved by the password manager, you can visit these sites and login without having to remember the login details.

If you came across an issue with your computer causing it not to start properly and you're afraid that Firefox would crash due to the repeated restarts and sure it enough it did. But before it did crash, you might want to make a backup of the passwords list so that you can use it when you reinstall Firefox.

Backing up the passwords:

1. First, download the Password Exporter Firefox Extension.
2. Install the add-on the usual way.
3. Go to Tools -> Options -> Security and click on Import/Export Passwords to get the window below.


4. Now click on the Export Passwords button. Select a location and name for the file to be saved.
5. You can save the passwords in the XML (eXtended Markup Language) or the CSV (Comma Separated Values) format.
6. You can also choose to encrypt the passwords and usernames in the exported file. But the encryption is crackable if somebody else accesses the file and imports the passwords.
7. Thus, you have successfully backed up your passwords.

Restoring the passwords:

1. Ensure that the the computer to where you are exporting the passwords has Firefox with the Password Exporter extension installed.
2. Go to Tools -> Options -> Security and click on Import/Export Passwords.


3. Click on the Import Passwords button.
4. Choose the file (xml or csv) where you have stored the passwords and click OK.
5. Your passwords will automatically be imported into Firefox.
6. Not only that, it will automatically be entered into login forms into the websites without you having to prompt it.

The current version of Password Exporter is 1.1 and supports Firefox from 2.0 to 3.5 version.

Did you know that Windows 7 build 7100 RC comes with "ringtones", what is this for? I did not found any aplications using these ringtones, did you?

It was quite a surprise to find that Microsoft had included ten ringtones in Windows 7 and perhaps you want to make these tones as your cellphone ringtones. That's the only thing that came across in my head the use of these ringtones.

Wanna get it, but it's all in Windows Media Audio (.wma) format and you have to convert it to other format to suite your cellphone ringtones supported format. Use any audio conversion tools or by online conversion services like Zamzar.

Here it this, open Windows Explorer > type in "%ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Ringtones" without quotations > hit Enter .


Copy and paste to your Desktop, convert it and transfer to your cellphone .. that's it .. have a nice and new ringtones.

Backup And Restore Windows XP's Activation Status
