Google Public DNS - Browsing The Web More Faster And Safer

I have written about 'Speed Up Web Browsing With OpenDNS' in my previous article and I have been using OpenDNS service ever since. Yes, the speed and the security is very good and stable, I thought that there is no other free DNS provider who are willing to offer a similar services provided by OpenDNS but surprisingly, Google has come to bring the challenge.

I slap my forehead in the first browsing using Google DNS, it's very very fast and definitely beat all the existing free public DNS and even some paid DNS too. Wow !! You should try this ...

Features of Google Public DNS include:
  • Speed: Resolver-side cache misses are one of the primary contributors to sluggish DNS responses. Clever caching techniques can help increase the speed of these responses.
  • Security: DNS is vulnerable to spoofing attacks that can poison the cache of a nameserver and can route all its users to a malicious website. Google Public DNS makes it more difficult for attackers to spoof valid responses by randomizing the case of query names and including additional data in its DNS messages.
  • Validity: Google Public DNS complies with the DNS standards and gives the user the exact response his or her computer expects without performing any blocking, filtering, or redirection that may hamper a user’s browsing experience.
Interestingly, the DNS number is very simple and easy to remember, which is:
  • Preferred DNS server: 8.8.8.8
  • Alternate DNS server: 8.8.4.4

For configurations, it is similar to OpenDNS setups, but if you need more details and confused on how and where to put the above numbers, visit here: http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using.html

Try it out, and hope that Google will keep this service stable and reliable at all times.
